Fish so good it will smack you!!!!!

What do our customers say?

Champy's: Move over!. If Champy's (one of our favorites) is open at the same time Uncle Larry's is when we are in the area, I don't think we will ever choose Champy's again. We got the tilapia, okra, white beans, hush puppies and a hot dog! Everything hot and absolutely perfectly seasoned and cooked. Get the "smack ya" sauce with the fish -- like tartar sauce but better. We were able to meet Uncle Larry and the rest of the staff. He was such a good cook at family functions, he was encouraged to start a restaurant. He is completely humbled by his success and popularity -- amazed that visitors from around the country and world have visited his restaurant. Easily in my top five in Chattanooga.

Uncle Larry's is a little hard to find. To make it easier for you, if you're coming from town, look for the mural of Martin Luther King. Uncle Larry's is in that building.

Tonight, I thought I'd try to make some tilapia the way Uncle Larry's makes it. Huge fail. Larry has years of experience under his belt. The recipe I got from the internet and my cooking skills just didn't make up for that.

What does it take to be #1? A big dining area? A 10-page menu? A large waiting staff? Valet Parking? Well, Uncle Larry's doesn't have any of that. What they have is great food and quality service.

The internet gives the little guys a chance to compete with the big boys. On our first trip to Chattanooga, we looked up several places as most of us do on TripAdvisor. Uncle Larry's was ranked #1 and we've never been disappointed by any restaurants ranked #1 on this site. The trend continues.

Small place but Larry and his brother Kevin are big characters. My wife and I went for lunch on a Saturday and I had the steamed tilapia, she had a tilapia sandwich and we had several sides (hushpuppies, corn bread, cucumber salad). Adding the option of steamed instead of fried clearly shows how conscious Larry is. But the fried items were so lightly breaded that you won't have to worry about eating greasy food.

We topped it off with a strawberry cake and wow baby, that was gooooooooood. Simply put, visit Uncle Larry's, you won't regret it.

We live in Nashville and keep season's passes to the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga (a MUST see, by the way). We're just back from a couple days in Chattanooga and I have to add my "two cents" on Uncle Larry's Restaurant. I found it on tripadvisor (number 2, actually), and it did not disappoint. I ordered catfish, white beans, okra, hushpuppys, and fried green tomatoes. My friend went with the catfish, french fries, and coleslaw. Everything was fresh and flavorful. I would wager everything was "homemade" except for the french fries. The folks couldn't've been more friendly. The prices were fair; and the portions were generous. Folks that say the reviews must be skewed, must be skewed themselves. I'm grateful for tripadvisor finding me this little mom and pop gem. Oh we'll definitely be visiting again when in town.

Thanks Michael R
